Taray Preservation Garden

A living sanctuary for Huachuma conservation, research, and community education in the Sacred Valley of Peru.

The Garden

A Sanctuary Taking Root

In partnership with Miguel Mendiburu, we officially opened the Huachuma Preservation Garden in Taray, Peru in the summer of 2025. The garden is home to hundreds of Huachuma cacti of many varieties, with a long-term goal of 5,000 plants.

Located in the village of Taray in the Sacred Valley, this garden is a sanctuary and a gathering place for community, ceremony, and education.

Adopt a Cactus

Support the ongoing care of the garden by adopting a Huachuma cactus. Donors who make a sustaining commitment will have a cactus planted in their name, with prayers from Miguel Mendiburu.

Why This Matters

The Huachuma cactus faces significant pressure from habitat loss and over-harvesting. Worldwide demand has severely reduced wild stocks, leaving indigenous communities without reliable access to their ancestral medicine. This garden provides a sustainable, protected source of Huachuma for future generations.

“This sanctuary represents a bridge between our ancestral wisdom and future generations. With your support, we can ensure that the profound teachings of Huachuma continue to guide and heal for years to come.”
— Miguel Mendiburu
