Trout’s Notes

Keeper Trout has done the most thorough work on these cacti that exists, and much of it is free at troutsnotes.com.

  • Pachanoi or Pachanot is where to start. It is the fastest way to see what the common garden plant actually is.
  • There is an extensive book on the alkaloids these cacti carry, for anybody who wants more than mescaline in the answer.

An alkaloid list is only as long as the analysis that made it, which is worth holding on to before comparing one plant with another.

Four Books

Javier Regueiro came to Peru in 2004, built a healing center of his own by hand, and wrote four books. The first of them is one of the most honest written in English about this plant.

  • San Pedro / Huachuma: Opening the Pathways of the Heart
  • Ayahuasca: Soul Medicine of the Amazon Jungle
  • The Toé / Datura Diaries
  • A Gift of Love: Poems, Prayers, and Stories from the Long and Dusty Road
