The Taray Preservation Garden
What is growing on the hillside at Taray, and what the next planting needs.
The garden now
The Foundation is thrilled with the progress on the hillside at Taray.
The cuttings planted the year before have shown significant growth. They have taken root and they have begun to grow.
Several hundred Huachuma of many varieties are in the ground, and more go in as the terraces fill. Miguel Mendiburu tends what is planted there.
Every cutting that takes root here is one more Huachuma growing where it is needed.
Four phases, 2024

Secured first. Everything since has happened on it.

The hillside is terraced and walled to protect what is planted.
Where we are now
Several hundred Huachuma are in the ground and more go in as the terraces fill. The vision is five thousand, which is what the hillside will hold.
Still to come
A place for the community to gather and learn. Where it will be is not settled yet.
Adopted plants
Plants on this hillside carry a river stone at the base, painted with the name the plant was given and set in a ring of rocks.
What donations pay for
In the ground
Money goes to the remaining build out of the garden, development of the hillside, new cactus, and ongoing care of what is already planted. Planting continues, and the terraces have room for five thousand as they fill.
The fourth phase
A community education center is the fourth part of the plan the Foundation set out in 2024, after the land, the terraces and the planting. Where it will be is not settled yet.
